Fornasetti

This elaborate volume, authored by the designer's son, is a splendid celebration of one of the world's most inventive design minds. Combining whimsy and elegance, Piero Fornasetti (1913-1988) transformed everyday objects like cups, scarves, and screens into works of art featuring his idiosyncratic leitmotifs, such as the hand, the female face, and luminescent fish. Additionally, he created a wide range of works, including idealized architectural fantasy drawings, book designs, and provocative nudes, as well as the decor for the luxury liner Andrea Doria. Perhaps most famous for dazzling pieces of trompe l'oeil furniture, Fornasetti was rediscovered in the 1980s and has remained much sought-after by collectors worldwide. Featuring 2,800 illustrations, many never before published, the monograph is designed to be an "artist's book" that reflects as faithfully as possible Fornasetti's own approach to design. Fornasetti's work is organized by type and includes paintings, sculptures and etchings, furniture, graphics, textiles, glass, screens, trays, and ceramics, as well as smaller categories. With unique and exhaustive access to the archives, this epic undertaking covers detailed technical, biographical, and bibliographical information, including a list of exhibitions and a register of the complete works. A must-have for collectors and connoisseurs alike.

Textile Reinforcement of Elastomers

The technical importance of flexible composite structures needs no emphasis nor has there been any lack of material descriptive of their manufacture or properties. The starting points of such descriptions have invariably been from the viewpoint of the rubber industry and the presence of a suitable textile has been taken for granted, its strength properties indicated and the technological content confined to the manufacturing process within the rubber industry. An attempt is made here to work from the textile outwards. Industrial fabrics are far heavier than garment textiles, are not produced in the same bulk quantities and need to be specially constructed to provide the balance of properties which will combine with those of the rubber to give the final. product. The most important composite structure formed from textiles and rubber is, of course, the pneumatic tyre. It may therefore seem strange that no chapter deals with this. The reason is quite simple. To deal with the structure and design of the pneumatic tyre in a similar depth of detail as is done here for conveyor or power transmission belting, or hose, would require disproportionate space, in fact, a second volume equal in size to the present one. This book discusses from the textile viewpoint the various reinforced rubber structures used industrially with the exception of the tyre. These other uses of industrial fabrics can be discussed in adequate detail and cover the whole range of the technology involved in the space available in the one volume.

Textile Fabrics and Their Preparation for Dyeing

First published in1906, this book contains a classic guide to textiles, dealing specifically with various different fabrics and how they should be prepared and dyed. Written in simple, clear language and full of helpful illustrations and diagrams, 'Textile Fabrics and Their Preparation for Dyeing' is perfect for textile novices and DIY enthusiasts, and it would make for a wonderful addition to collections of related literature. Paul Nooncree Hasluck (1854 - 1916) was an Australian engineer and editor. He was a master of technical writing and father of the 'do-it-yourself' book, producing many books on subjects including engineering, handicrafts, woodwork, and more. Other notable works by this author include: 'Treatise on the Tools Employed in the Art of Turning' (1881), 'The Watch-Jobber's Handy Book' (1887), and 'Screw-Threads and Methods of Producing Them' (1887). Many vintage books such as this are increasingly scarce and expensive. It is with this in mind that we are republishing this volume now in an affordable, modern, high-quality edition complete with a specially-commissioned new biography of the author.

Encyclopedia of Surfactants Volume 4

PREFACE - This comprehensive, modem encyclopedia of surfactant products has been compiled with the cooperation of the major national and international surfactant manufacturers in order to give the user quick and thorough information on each tradename product that is included. Information from thousands of brochures, technical bulletins, and data sheets has been gleaned in order to make a complete profile on each surfactant product available from one source-this three volume compendium. Though sometimes limited by the information provided by the manufacturers, in most instances, the chemical ingredients, properties, form, applications, etc. of each product are discussed in detail. The use of surfactants pervades almost every chemical industrial concern- including textiles, paints, pesticides, foods, cosmetics, pharamceuticals, etc. We hope that because of the universality of surfactants, this reference work will be able to serve as a useful tool to the many chemical engineers and salespeople here and abroad. We want to extend our thanks to Roberta Dakan for her dedication and tireless efforts in helping make this encyclopedia as accurate and consistent as possible. When the temperature at which properties such as viscosity, density, surface tension; solubilities, etc. is not included, a standard temperature of 25 C is to be assumed. The information in this publication is reliable to the best of our knowledge. We would be glad to be informed of any errors or omissions so that these can be integrated into subsequent editions of this encyclopedia.
